CARDIAC

Cardiac services within Lorn and Islands Hospital are multidisciplinary to ensure good communication pathways, reducing duplication of work therefore improving the patient/carer experience and providing evidence-based care. Where necessary the nurse will act as a patient advocate.

Where possible patients will be managed locally with expert advice from Cardiologists based in Glasgow, with whom we have very close working links.

The service will be provided in the acute setting, nurse-led clinics or home, whichever is the most appropriate for the patient and carers.

Betty Graham is the Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Cardiac Care and provides support, education and disease management treatments to patients and carers living with a cardiac condition such as heart attack, heart failure, angina, cardiac surgery, inherited cardiac conditions, arrhythmias, palliative care.  Diagnostic tests provided locally include echocardiography, exercise tolerance testing and 24 hour ECG monitoring.

Cardiac rehabilitation classes run weekly within Lorn and Islands Physiotherapy department.
