DIABETES CARE
Dr Nicky Campbell, Associate Specialist, MSc Diabetes and Fiona Thompson, Diabetes Specialist Nurse provide a clinic for adults with diabetes on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. Fiona Thompson runs a specialist nurse-led clinic for people with problems with blood sugar control, insulin initiation or intensification, and drug treatment regimens on Friday afternoons. Dietician Lesley Bakos-Hodge is available for advice on Friday afternoons. We also provide a structured education programme for people with type 1 diabetes.
The Paediatric Diabetes service is provided by the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow. Two Paediatric Consultants and a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse provide outreach clinics in Oban three times a year. Locally Carole Gatward, Community Children’s Nurse, and Lesley Bakos-Hodge, Dietician, provide diabetes care by visiting families, schools and nurseries to provide support and advice, and organise educational and social events.
