The profession helps to encourage improvement in physical function and facilitate recovery, enabling people to stay in work and helping them to remain independent for as long as possible.

Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment.

At Lorn and Islands hospital the physiotherapy team aims to provide the highest quality service possible across a full range of conditions. We provide clinical services within the hospital itself as well as in a number of GP practices and the islands of Mull, Luing, Easdale, Lismore, Tiree, Coll and Colonsay. We work closely with our local residential and nursing care establishments and we can also work with individuals in their own homes where this is appropriate.
