THEATRE AND ENDOSCOPY DEPARTMENT

The Theatre department includes an Operating Theatresuite and an Endoscopy suite.Theatre and Endoscopy

  • In the Endoscopy procedure room, various diagnostic and surveillance tests (such as gastroscopy or colonoscopy) are carried out using flexible cameras. These are usually arranged as day case procedures.
  • The theatre suite has an anaesthetic room, an operating theatre and a recovery area where you are cared for in the period immediately after your operation. Some procedures are carried out as day case procedures; others will require a stay in hospital overnight or for a few days. After an operation, patients will usually return to Ward A or our High Dependency Unit.

Our theatre facilities are used by various consultants, including three general surgeons, three anaesthetists and three physicians, as well as visiting consultants, all of whom provide a wide range of services to patients in the Argyll & Bute area such as :

  • A broad spectrum of general surgery, including bowel and keyhole surgery
  • Anaesthetics, including chronic pain treatments
  • Urology
  • Oral surgery
  • Dental surgery
  • Ophthalmology – minor eye surgery

Both suites are staffed by theatre nurses, operating department practitioners, healthcare assistants and administrative staff. We also take student nurses on theatre placement and are pleased to be able to offer them a wide variety of experience in a supportive environment where we aim to provide a friendly, responsive and caring service for our patients.
